My 23rd Fishing Trip - Desaru JB

Gosh am I tired...

I just came back on the 23rd from a 8 day escape to HK, Macau, Shenzhen and Zhuhai. Only had the 24th to rest! Desaru was on the 25th... But we had to gather at 5am to make our way down. Jesus. So damn tired. Back to work today... Sigh!

Frankly I didn't take as many pics for this trip for several reasons.

1. I was fucking tired.
2. The weather was horrid!

I left my place around 0430hrs to make my way down to Woodlands. Patrick was gonna drive us in.

But before I get to that, I wanna share with you guys a kelong I visited in HK, Sai Kung. We went there to fish but had no gear, only handlines. So as expected we didn't really get anything but the scenery was breath taking. The waters were clean and filled with life. I'm sure if I had proper gear we could have gotten alot of fishes. Enjoy the pics! By the way, it only costs 80 HKD for as long as you want! My HK friends Thomas and Gavin never came here before either, so it was a relaxing getaway for all of us!

On another side note, a bird built a nest and laid 2 eggs on my bamboo tree beside my window. After my trip, the eggs have hatched! They are cockatoos! Very tempted to keep them lol.

Okay back to business!

After a short drive, we arrived at our breakfast spot, wanton mee!

After our meal, we traveled more than an hour and picked up some prawns along the way.

Kakis today were Patrick, ZY, Jimmy and myself. We arrived at the Desaru beach and helped the boatman unload the boat into the waters.

Sigh, then it got shitty. Waters were supposed to be calm and nice. But within 2mins of anchoring, the angry storm hit us. The wind was so damn strong and so were the waves. The rain didn't let up either! Dammit. Obviously no fish were biting and I was starting to feel a little seasick so I took a nap.

The boat's design is really weird, very hard to move around and not very comfortable to fish. Somehow, amongst all the rocking, I managed to pop a seasick pill and slept.

I woke up around 1230pm and the water started to calm down, and then the real fishing began. Bite rate was decent and all of us managed to get hook ups. Patrick was the luckiest angler on this trip. He got 2 Groupers around 1kg and one Kim.

Boatman was pulling up a gazillion Selars so I joined in. Really good fun! Some Selars were huge and put up a nice fight on a light tackle. I also got a few 水晶 on my Stabiki and boy was it fun. They really put up a decent fight!

I changed to my light tackle for bottom fishing as there didn't seem to be big fishes around, I kept getting >500g Snappers.

When suddenly...........

Shit, Sangkot... Rod totally stuck cannot move. So I stood up and gave it a strike hoping to get it loose. BOOM! The damn thing took off! My light tackle went straight into the water! I was totally unprepared! I tried to hold on... I already maxed my drag but it still pulled it out omg? And my S4000 reel had totally no chance against the monster. It pulled and pulled and my line snapped! OMG!!! CRY!!!! I didn't even have a chance to see what the hell it was!!

I'm pretty sure it's not a Grouper. I suspect it's a Cobia or Stingray. There was no initial pull and it didn't trash around, it just took off! The boatman scolded me for like 10mins telling me how shit all of us were and we will never catch big fishes. The fucker was really emotional and angry. Wtf? I go fishing also get scolded? Fuck u asshole. He kept saying we were here to release fish not to catch fish. Sibei guai lan. Damn irritating.

Anyway, soon it was time to go and we had a million Selars! We went for seafood dinner and had them cook the 4 huge Arumugums we had! But first, sorting our loot!

This is what I took home. Although I was full, I immediately steamed the two biggest Selars for my CEO to eat. Heh. Was a fun trip in all just too bad I was exhausted from my HK trip. Let's do it again guys! Thanks!
